This is where I'll be posting all the tasks given to me by my media teacher and will act as my portfolio for the subject.

Music Magazine : Artist Research - Various
Katy Perry is well known for her eccentric and outrageous on stage appearance. Her style closely matches that of Lady Gaga's except it's much friendlier. Katy Perry's most well known songs have a childish candy theme therefore revealing a part of herself; the fact that she is still a child herself (she said so herself).
I could use her branding for my artist in the sense that she'll will be quirky and silly, and will sometimes dress in awfully stupid styles but will somehow pull it off.

Micheal Jackson throughout his career was known for a few different styles. His first style was obviously the young kid in the Jackson 5, his style then changed later in his career to that infamous crotch grab that he does and his long notes and short intakes of breath. Michael Jackson is also known for being a the King of Pop who turned from black to white.
I could use Micheal Jackson's branding in the sense that my artist will have gone through numerous styles before landing upon the one she likes the most.

Nicki Minaj, although delves in rap and hop hop songs, is considered a pop star due to her popularity among the youth, the younger generation appreciate the rhythm and tempo of her music and adults can enjoy laughing at the rude innuendo hidden in the music, as is common in most songs. Nicki is known for her bright blonde hair with multicolored strands in it (her hair style often changes as do the colors) and her thick eyelashes.
I could use Nicki Minaj's branding in the sense that my artist's songs will also have sexual innuendo which could be discussed in the double page spread, and my artist's songs will also delve into rap and hip hop.

Music Magazine : General Audience Research
The first question I asked people was 'Do you read music magazines?' I asked this question to find out if students are even bothered to read music magazines. If the most popular answer turns out to be no logic suggests to put it in some other form, like for example a blog.
Since I can't do a music magazine on my favourite type of music I asked on the survey what kind of genre they like to listen to. I have a gut feeling the most popular answer will be either rap or hip hop.
I then asked who their favourite music artist is. I hope to gain an idea of what the sixth form students' idol is in general to then base my artist on that.
This question simply had to be asked 'How much are you willing to spend on a music magazine?' I set my options from nought to ten pounds though I think that hardly any one will go higher than five.
Final question is whether anyone would participate in an audio interview for my focused research. I'll have a set of separate, more specific questions to ask.

Music Magazine : Research
Music Magazines by Laila Msouhli
This is a mind map of how some magazines word their news and events on their websites. The magazines I researched focus mainly on lesser known music groups or indie music.

Music Magazine : Research Rataionale
My research rationale involves 11-18 year olds; the reason being that I am a sixth form student in NMBEC thus logically thinking my research should be based on accessibility, it simply wouldn't make sense to research a subject which you have no interest in nor have access to. My idea is to have hard copies of my research in the form of a questionnaire / tally chart; once the initial research is done then I'll count up the tally and assess what is the most significant correlation. One small setback is that as the deadline is approaching quickly therefore I don't have time to go around the school asking everyone their preferences so I have managed to get some help in this task and it will hopefully be done in enough time.
Music Magazine : Typography
This is a mood board of the mastheads of some of the most popular music magazines currently in circulation.
Most of these mastheads are in bold and sans serif suggesting that they are bold, lack elegance (a serif indicates elegance and maturity) and is intended for younger audiences. Most of the magazines have a particular trait in the masthead that is recognizable, like NME being red, Top of the Pops having, for lack of a better term, a swirl at the end or the b, o, a and d being colored in. The Kerrang magazine's masthead is unique compared to the others; the title is memorable because of it's onomatopoeia and the lines going through the letters as if the masthead was broken.

Music Magazine : Introduction
The task is to conduct research and create a final music magazine. Much like the school magazine it'll have a front cover and a contents page but will also have a double page spread of an artist interview; the artist will be made up as it would be nigh on impossible to get an interview from a real music artist.
