The similarities between magazine and flat plan are highlighted in green squares and the differences are highlighted in red ovals / circles.
The similarities between Billboard and my first idea are that Billboard have decided to have their captions neatly set to one side, have their model in medium long shot and have a stylized masthead; in my first idea I too have my captions neatly set to one side, have my drawn model in a medium long shot and have a stylized masthead: the idea for my masthead was to have all the letters with a whole in the middle to have a graphic that resembles a bubble popping, emphasis on the pop, however it turned out more like flowers and paint splats, and since pop music is music that's on the up and up, so to speak, so I transformed the ends of the 'U' to arrows to represent music that's popular. The similarities in my second idea are that Billboard lack a bar code and decided to put their pull quotes in graphics; I too decided to leave out a bar code and put my quote in a graphic.
The differences are that Billboard left out any puffs and don't include a free gift; in my second idea I did include a couple puffs and a free gift to draw readers in. Because who doesn't like free stuff?

The similarities from my first idea is that the model is in a medium long shot and, coincidently, in pretty much the exact same pose. The similaties in my second idea are that the captions are small and short to attract the reader's attention to the model, the puffs are in graphics and the masthead is in similar text boxes. The differences are that I decided to put my pull quote in a graphic to add emphasis, I put a major puff at the top of the page and as this is a student intended magazine it's free, therefore a lack of a barcode. We heart pop decided against putting the pull quote in a graphic, have their major quote athe bottom of the page and have a barcode, which means they're in it for profit.
The similarities between Top of the Pops and my first idea are that they both have a stylized letter; Top of the Pops has a swirl at the end of the 'S', my magazine has a stylized 'O', the idea was for it to look like a bubble popping since my music genre is pop however it came out more or less like a paint splat. The similarities of my second idea are that they both have a puff at very top of the page and have free gifts at the very bottom of the page, and the model on both is in a medium close up shot.
The differences are that Top of the Pops decided to have very few captions, to place their pull quote in a graphic in front of the model and added a bar code since this magazine is looking for profit. I, however, decided to have a list of captions to draw people in, not to have my pull quote in a graphic in my first idea to draw attention to the model, in my second idea I did put the pull quote in a graphic, and since my target audience is teens between 15 and 18 I decided that this magazine should be free of charge.
